How do I begin? + Show Answer
Simply return to the Home Page and click on "Appeal Now!" next to "for Other States". Complete the online fillable forms and sign them. Email, fax or surface mail them along with any information that you have received from the Assessor about appealing your property valuation to us. We will then contact you if we need anything else. Once your Order has been processed, we will confirm this by email. It couldn't be simpler for you!
Should I appeal my property tax every year? + Show Answer
Yes! Various un-biased, "third party" sources recommend that you check your property valuation each year. These include Consumer's Reports, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine and others. Even if your property value decreased or didn't change, we strongly recommend you ask TaxDetective to lower your property tax. Since 1997, our experience has shown that owners who consistently ask us each year to file an appeal end up with lower property taxes.
Are there up-front fees? + Show Answer
Generally no. Tax Detective's business is lowering property taxes. We do not charge up-front fees on residential properties having a valuation of $400,000 or more. For lower valued properties, sometimes we need to in order to file the appeal. We determine whether an up-front fee is necessary after receiving your two completed forms. We will then contact you by email.
How accurate is the Assessor's valuation of my property? + Show Answer
It depends. The Assessor is responsible for appraising all real properties. A Mass Appraisal System is used and valuations are set according to approximate market value. Sales of similar properties are used to determine market values. Given the allowable time and resource constraints, this is a challenge. In times of uncertainty and changing market values it is very difficult.
Are there filing deadlines? + Show Answer
Yes. The deadline may be shown on the paperwork that you received from the Assessor. When you return your two forms, please also send a copy of this paperwork to us.
May I appeal non-residential properties? + Show Answer
Yes! We welcome all types of real properties.
May I appeal more than one property? + Show Answer
Yes! It is best to appeal all of the real properties you own. You may use one set of forms for all properties providing they are all in Colorado. For properties in other states, return to the Home Page and choose the other state.
